Why volunteer with us?
Last year our network of volunteers worked with 564 charities on pro bono management consultancy projects, donating a staggering 15,840 hours of their time to power social good. Our volunteers work with charity leaders, offering support with everything from planning their business strategy to producing a realistic marketing plan.
By becoming a Cranfield Trust volunteer you will be joining a powerful network of over 1,200 like-mined business people, who are all keen to make a difference to charities across the country.
How you can get involved
We understand that juggling family life, work and leisure time can be a real challenge. Whether you can volunteer for several hours a month or just as a one-off a few times a year, we value your time and the difference you can make to the charities.
We have a number of volunteer roles designed to support charities in different ways, all of them have the same ethos - to help build successful charities.

Volunteer management consultant
Volunteer time: approx. 7-12 days (usually over 6 to 12 months)
As a volunteer management consultant, you will work directly with senior charity leaders to help them find solutions to management challenges. You will typically provide seven to twelve days’ time over a few months to a year and will have a dedicated Cranfield Trust Project Manager to support you.
Volunteer time: approx. 1- 2 hours every 4 - 6 weeks
Becoming a Cranfield Trust mentor means becoming a senior level ‘critical friend’, someone who can share their knowledge and experience, to help support leadership decisions and impact. You will work with a charity leader to offer highly skilled insight, innovative ideas, challenge, and reinforcement.
Volunteer masterclass or webinar presenter
Volunteer time: approx. 1.5 days (Including planning time)
Every year we run a series of topical masterclasses and webinars exclusively for voluntary organisations. These classes are presented by experts on subjects including business planning, marketing, risk management, governance, social media, finance and HR. Volunteer masterclass presenters share their time over a session of one hour to half a day to help small to medium size charities learn about best practice, new trends and to offer practical knowledge and guidance.
Volunteer time: approx. 2 - 3 hours
Through our service Cranfield Trust On Call, we offer charity leaders and managers short sessions of telephone advice on specific problems. We match charities with volunteers with relevant skills, and provide a short briefing on the topic for discussion.
