Date: Tuesday 18th September 2018

Time: 12:30pm to 4:30pm

Cost:  Free - max. 2 tickets per charity  (1 Trustee & 1 CEO/Senior leader)

This masterclass is exclusively for charities.

This course is targeted towards charity leaders and Trustees.

We are delighted to invite charities to this interactive and participative event to be held in Birmingham. An effective, supportive Board and an excellent working relationship between trustees, staff and volunteers are essentials for the successful operation and governance of a charity.  Trustee recruitment and induction, defining roles and responsibilities, keeping up to date with regulation and business pressures, the vital role of the Chair and their relationship with the CEO or equivalent – these are among the key issues that will be explored at a  Cranfield Trust Masterclass.

The “Working Effectively with your Board” Governance Masterclass will examine the principles and practices that will help you work with your Board to best effect, and how to be ready and prepared in anticipation of challenges for the organisation, before they arrive.

The workshop will offer both expert input and the chance for peer to peer networking and learning.  By attending the workshop, you will have a chance to exchange ideas and develop best practice. The workshop will be led by Dr David Brown on behalf of the Cranfield Trust.  David is the former CEO of a large international membership charity, and is or has been a trustee of several charities in fields from science and engineering to childcare and asylum and refugee issues. He now advises charities, higher education institutions and others on subjects including governance, organisation, CIO establishment and leadership.

Spaces are limited to two per organisation. We recommend that your organisation leader (i.e. Manager or CEO) and the Chair, or another member of your organisation’s Board, attend.

NB. Whilst we are happy to 'signpost' information sources on the setting up of Boards, legal requirements etc. this workshop will not be aimed at covering these areas in detail.

How to Tender - what charities need to know.

Venue: Brewin Dolphin, 10 Wellington Place, Leeds.

Date: Wednesday 26 September 2018

Time: 1230 - 1700

Cost: Free - max. 2 tickets per charity

This masterclass is exclusively for charities.

We are delighted to offer our free masterclass on "How to Tender - what charities need to know" exclusively to charities in the Leeds area on Wednesday 26 September . The process of bidding and tendering for contracts can sometimes feel rather mind blowing.  To make the process seem less confusing and also more encouraging we are running a Cranfield Trust masterclass for charities and not-for-profit organisations on "How to Tender - what charities need to know".

The course is intended to:

  • Explain the rules surrounding tendering
  • Explore how to find tendering opportunities
  • Describe the stages of the tendering process
  • Provide hints and tips to improve your chances of creating a winning tender rather than merely a compliant tender

Trevor Kitching, the Cranfield Trust's Midlands Regional Project Manager will deliver the course.  Trevor is a management consultant with over 30 years experience working with large companies, public sector organisations and SMEs across all business sectors. He specialises in procurement and the supply chain and acts as an independent verifier for the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply's corporate certification scheme as well as running his own independent consultancy.

With kind thanks to Brewin Dolphin and DLA Piper for the in kind gift of the rooms to host our masterclasses and Dr David Brown for volunteering his time.
